Home Education Workshop – Bletchley Code Breaker
Event
Monday September 28th 1-2:30pm - Meeting a Bletchley Code Breaker
During the darkest days of World War II Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire became the top secret centre for intelligence and code breaking - in this engaging and educational workshop led by a Bletchley Park Codebreaker impersonator you will discover how the men and women based at Bletchley Park helped the Allies achieve victory in the Second World War. The capture of an enemy enigma machine and the breaking of its codes was a real turning point in the war. It enabled the allies to intercept coded messages which was invaluable in the Battle of the Atlantic.
Participants will hear an account by a female codebreaker in a presentation that will provide an insight into the role women played in this extremely important work.
If you like a puzzle and are curious about what went on in Bletchley Park you will enjoy learning some Morse code as well as making and breaking codes using code wheels.
This workshop has been developed for children aged 7-11 years old, but we leave it up to parents/guardians to decide if this is likely to be suitable for their child and attendance is open for all ages. Parents have fed back that they have found these sessions enjoyable and would recommend them for children of all ages.
