60th Anniversary Under Bridge Tour

Join us behind the scenes for a special tour to celebrate the Tamar Bridge’s 60th anniversary!

Fully booked
Saturday 23rd October @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Free entry

Join our engineers and Bridging the Tamar Visitor Centre volunteers to find out more about what goes on behind the scenes at the Tamar Bridge.
You’ll go underneath the bridge structure and inside the anchorage chamber, experiencing unique and breathtaking views across to the Royal Albert Bridge alongside, and finding out more about the Tamar Bridge’s history and engineering heritage. We will start at the Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre and head out onto the under-bridge area. We will spend approximately half an hour here, including stopping at the small viewing platform to admire a unique view of the Royal Albert Bridge before going into the anchorage chamber for another half hour. There will be time for questions as we go and also at the end of the tour, before returning to the Visitor Centre.

The tour is limited to 6 visitors.

Going under the bridge doesn’t require any special levels of fitness however you will be walking on walkways with grilles with views down to the river below which may not be suitable for those who suffer from vertigo.

Government recommendations are still being followed by the Tamar Crossings in relation to COVID19 and you will likely be required to wear a face mask within the anchorage chamber unless exempt.
Please note a minimum age of 18 years applies to this tour.
The under-bridge is open to the elements. If there is particularly bad weather which would make the visit dangerous or the experience unpleasant Tamar Crossings reserves the right to cancel or postpone this element of the event on the day.

Given the nature of the location of the under-bridge area and anchorage (an enclosed space with steep steps), we may not be able to meet certain specific accessibility requirements. Please get in touch if you would like more information on this.
You will need to wear sturdy footwear and bring warm waterproof clothes. You will be provided with PPE equipment (high vis jacket and hard hat) on the day.
